WeVerify is an European Union-funded open-source project that builds tools and workflows to detect, verify, and counter online disinformation. It’s intended for journalists, fact-checkers, researchers, rights activists, and digital communities.
Online fake news and manipulated media pose a serious challenge to public discourse and safety. WeVerify aims to give professionals and communities robust tools to verify content in near real-time, uncover misinformation, and contextualize online stories across networks.
WeVerify provides a suite of cross-modal verification tools, such as a browser plugin, forensic detectors (e.g., deepfake analysis), location estimation, super-resolution imaging, and collaborative verification workbench software. The project combines human review with automated AI-assisted techniques in a “human-in-the-loop” workflow to ensure reliable verification.
