Credit Karma Tax was a free, web-based tax filing product offered by Credit Karma. It supported federal and state income tax returns for U.S. filers, including many common schedules that other “free” tools often paywalled.
The product has since been discontinued and replaced by Cash App Taxes after Credit Karma was acquired by Intuit and divested the tax product.
Credit Karma Tax stood out because it was genuinely free. No upsells. No paid tiers. State returns were included. This made it especially appealing for cost-conscious filers, freelancers, and households with moderately complex returns who didn’t want surprise fees at checkout.
It built strong trust by not charging for forms like Schedule C or itemized deductions, which competitors often restrict.
Users imported prior-year returns or manually entered tax info through a guided flow. The software handled calculations, error checks, and e-filing for federal and state returns.
