Datawrapper is a tool that lets you create charts, maps and tables so you can turn raw data into engaging visuals and share them online.

Overview

Datawrapper is a web-based visualization tool that allows you to upload or paste data and quickly build interactive charts, maps and tables—no coding required.

If you need to communicate data clearly—whether you’re a journalist, analyst, researcher or marketer—Datawrapper helps you produce visually appealing graphics that can be embedded in websites or used in reports. It speeds up the workflow of turning spreadsheets into publishable visuals. It also supports teams and branding control for organizations.

You upload (or link) data (CSV, Excel, Google Sheets), choose a visualization type (bar, line, scatter, maps etc.), customize styling, then publish or embed the result. The interface locks you into Datawrapper’s design-default style (which is good for readability) but full branding or white-labelling requires a paid plan. Also: bigger data analysis tasks or dashboard-level work (multiple charts in one layout) are outside its core scope.

FAQ

Can I use the visuals commercially (e.g., on my website or in reports)?
Yes — you can publish visuals and embed/share them under your account. If you’re on the free plan, the visual will show “Created with Datawrapper”. On paid plans you can remove attribution.
How many charts/maps can I create per month or how many views are allowed?
With the free plan you can create unlimited visualizations and there is no published limit on views.
Can I edit/customise the styling (colours, fonts, branding)?
Yes — basic customization is built in (chart types, colours etc). But full branding control (themes, custom fonts, removing attribution) is only available in the paid “Custom” plan.
Does it integrate with live data sources or automate updates?
You can link Google Sheets and external CSVs. There is API support for automating visualization creation and updates (especially in higher plans). But it does not aim to replace full data-warehouse real-time dashboards.
What about privacy and data ownership?
Datawrapper states that all data you upload remains yours. Published charts stay online indefinitely. They also emphasize that they don’t track your readers via embedded code.
What extra do you get on the top plan vs free?
On the Custom plan you get brand theming, export to SVG/PDF, removal of attribution, and team licenses. On the Enterprise plan you further get self-hosting, SSO and enterprise SLAs.
